Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign ended on a surprising note with a 2-1 defeat to Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Despite having already secured their place as Group D winners, the Super Eagles struggled to close out their final group-stage match. Samuel Chukwueze gave Nigeria the lead in the 59th minute with a brilliant solo effort, showcasing his skill and determination.
However, Rwanda turned the game around with two quick goals from Ange Mutsinzi and Innocent Nshuti, marking a historic first victory over the three-time African champions.
The loss is the first under interim manager Augustine Eguavoen, whose future with the team remains uncertain following the defeat.
