Samuel Chukwueze Set to Leave AC Milan in January Amid Interest from Atletico Madrid and Premier League Clubs

Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze is reportedly looking to exit AC Milan during the January transfer window, with Atletico Madrid and Premier League clubs West Ham and Aston Villa expressing interest in the winger, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Chukwueze joined Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee of €20 million, making him the most expensive signing of a window that saw 10 players arrive at the San Siro. However, the 25-year-old has struggled to find his form in Serie A, failing to replicate the performances that established him as a key player during his five-year stint at Villarreal.

Since joining the Rossoneri, Chukwueze has made just 39 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He has logged only 175 minutes out of a possible 540 across six Serie A matches this season.

Milan manager Paulo Fonseca recently indicated that Chukwueze may not fit into his plans, suggesting that the Nigerian should consider moving elsewhere. “He had a very good preseason when he had space against big teams. However, upon our arrival, I believe Chukwueze has not been as effective against teams like Torino and Lazio,” Fonseca stated. “It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to regain his confidence and adapt to the right movements in this context; in Serie A, he has no space.”

Following these comments, Italian outlet Les-transferts reported that Chukwueze could make a return to Spain, with Atletico Madrid reportedly keen on acquiring his services. The winger’s contract with AC Milan runs until June 2028, but his limited playing time this season may facilitate a potential exit in January.

With an estimated market value of €20 million, Chukwueze, who has 38 caps and five goals for Nigeria, could soon find himself in the sights of several clubs, including West Ham and Aston Villa, as he seeks to rejuvenate his career.
