Schools across Anambra State have resumed academic activities following the Christmas and New Year holidays. A visit to schools in Awka and its environs by the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, confirmed that classes had commenced in earnest.
At Ezi Awka Community Primary and Secondary School, students were observed cleaning their classrooms and taking resumption tests. While some were busy washing off accumulated dust, others were engaged in academic activities. The Principal of Ezi Awka Community Secondary School, Mrs. Eucharia Ogbunyi, and the Headmistress of the Primary School section, Mrs. Beatrice Umeh, confirmed that both teachers and students had resumed fully for the term. They also appealed for assistance in addressing challenges such as the lack of fencing, gating, and adequate security to prevent intruders.
In Aguoji Primary School, Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, teacher turnout was impressive, although only a few pupils had returned to school.
During her visit, Dr. Nwadinobi inspected teachers’ resumption levels and emphasized the importance of dedication to duty. She urged teachers to serve as role models and positively influence their students, recognizing the state government’s efforts to create a conducive learning environment.
As part of the visit, Dr. Nwadinobi distributed exercise books to students, a gesture from the state government aimed at supporting education in the state.
