Embattled American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York following his arrest on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. According to reports, the 54-year-old was placed under suicide watch as a preventative measure.
The decision came after Diddy was ordered by U.S. magistrate judge Robyn Tarnofsky to be held in jail while awaiting trial. However, his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, clarified that the suicide watch is a standard procedure for high-profile inmates and does not indicate that the rapper is suicidal.
Agnifilo, who spent six hours with Diddy at the facility, stated, “He’s not at all suicidal. He was healthy, strong, confident, and focused on his defense.”
It remains unclear how long Diddy will remain under suicide watch as he prepares to face trial.
