In a significant move to address security concerns and reinforce public confidence, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, today hosted a high-level delegation at the Police Headquarters in Awka. The delegation, led by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, included other Honourable Members of the House and senior officials from various political parties in the state.
The meeting, held on 19th February 2025, focused on recent security developments and the steps being taken by the police to ensure justice and maintain order. CP Orutugu assured the delegation that the Command is actively working to re-arrest a fleeing suspect and emphasized the commitment of the police to uphold the rule of law. He also reiterated the Command’s dedication to maintaining public trust in the state’s security framework.
During the briefing, CP Orutugu outlined the measures already in place to apprehend two suspects currently at large. He also disclosed that disciplinary actions have been initiated against officers involved in a recent regrettable incident, underscoring the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.
The delegation included prominent figures such as the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Sir Ikenna Sylvester Ofodeme; Hon. Jude Ifenanyi Umennajiego; the State Chairman of the Labour Party; and other senior political representatives.
The meeting concluded on a solemn note with a one-minute silence observed in honour of the late Honourable Justice Azuka, whose contributions to justice and the rule of law were remembered.
The engagement between the police and political leaders highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen security and foster collaboration between law enforcement and the community in Anambra State.
