Senator Hanga Donates Burial Essentials to Constituents

Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, has made a significant donation to his constituents, providing 5,000 pieces of white fabric and clay pots. This gesture aims to assist with the burial process for loved ones, addressing the frequent requests for burial support from constituents.

The announcement of the donations was made by Dawuud Auwal, one of Senator Hanga’s social media aides, via Facebook. However, despite efforts by PUNCH Online, the specific post could not be located.

Auwal highlighted the common occurrence of constituents seeking financial assistance for purchasing white cloths and clay pots for burials, with some even requesting vehicles for transporting the deceased.

Senator Hanga, an accountant representing Kano Central since 2023 under the New Nigeria Peoples Party, serves a district comprising 15 Local Government Areas. His donation aligns with traditional Muslim burial customs prevalent in the North, where white fabric is used to wrap the deceased, followed by clay pots as an initial covering before burial in sand.

While the gesture has garnered positive reactions, it has also sparked criticism on social media platforms. Some individuals questioned the rationale behind the donation, particularly in light of pressing issues such as hunger, hardship, and unemployment.

A pro-Hausa organization, @VoiceofHausa, expressed disappointment, suggesting that resources could have been directed towards more pressing needs like healthcare infrastructure.

Similarly, Twitter users like SILAS TAFI-WARWAR and FAISAL raised concerns about the appropriateness of the donation in the context of Senator Hanga’s responsibilities and the pressing needs of his constituents.
