Nigerian singer Guchi, known for her hit single “Jennifer,” recently shared how she worked in an ice cream shop to support her family before her music career took off.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Guchi explained that she juggled her passion for music with the responsibility of providing for her family. Her big break came unexpectedly when her boss at the ice cream shop overheard her singing.
“I used to work in an ice cream store. I didn’t want to just sit and wait for a record deal. I had to feed my siblings and my mother,” she said.
Recalling the life-changing moment, Guchi stated, “One day, while I was singing and preparing ice cream, my boss heard me and asked who was singing. Everyone pointed at me. He liked my boldness and pulled out a card from his pocket. Initially, I was disappointed, thinking I would get a tip, but I didn’t realize he was my destiny helper.”
