Soludo Announces Imminent Launch of Second Phase of “One Youth Two Skills” Program

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed plans to initiate the second phase of the state government’s “One Youth, Two Skills” program, aimed at empowering youths through skills acquisition.

Addressing participants at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course for Corps Members deployed to Anambra State, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA, Governor Soludo emphasized the administration’s commitment to youth development.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, Governor Soludo highlighted the pivotal role of skills acquisition in driving the state’s youth-centered policies. He underscored the comprehensive nature of the “One Youth Two Skills” program, which encompasses training, mentoring, and financial support for youths across all 21 local government areas.

Encouraging corps members to engage with the local community and leverage their skills and knowledge for mutual benefit, Governor Soludo reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring their safety and welfare throughout their service year.

He commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management for its innovative approach to orientation programs, facilitating a seamless transition for graduates into society post-service year.

Mr. Patrick Agha-Mba, Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth Development, welcomed the corps members and announced the government’s intention to organize football and volleyball competitions during their orientation period. These events aim to identify talented athletes among the corps members and promote Anambra State as a hospitable environment for NYSC activities.

In her address, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma, praised the discipline and enthusiasm displayed by the corps members, expressing optimism about their ability to benefit from the orientation program’s leadership and skills development modules.

With a total of 1,702 corps members deployed to the state, Mrs. Iruma highlighted the importance of community engagement and urged the corps members to actively participate in community development projects to uplift rural areas.

The opening ceremony concluded with the swearing-in of corps members and various displays, setting the stage for a productive and impactful orientation period ahead.
