The Okpoko General Hospital in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, has been inaugurated, marking a major milestone in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in the state.
Once a neglected dumpsite, the area has been transformed into a modern healthcare facility equipped with various amenities, including a relaxation center, portable water supply, and enhanced security.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, officially commissioned the hospital alongside Governor Soludo, Deputy Governor Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and other government officials.
Dubbed the “Solution General Hospital, Okpoko,” the facility is the first general hospital in the area and includes departments for dental care, pediatrics, maternity, and general medical services.
Prof. Pate commended the transformation, describing it as a testament to Governor Soludo’s commitment to improving healthcare. “What was once a dumpsite is now a world-class medical facility,” he noted.
Governor Soludo, expressing satisfaction with the project, also highlighted other completed initiatives in Okpoko, including a 15-kilometer road network, street lighting, and a water scheme. “Our vision is to ensure Okpoko rises again,” he stated, emphasizing efforts to revamp the local education system.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, revealed that the hospital has already treated over 102,643 patients and performed 344 caesarean sections. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to reducing mortality rates in Anambra.
With its official opening, the Okpoko General Hospital is expected to enhance healthcare delivery and improve the well-being of residents in the area.
