Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has emphasized that the successful implementation of the recently passed Anambra State Local Government Administration Law, 2024, hinges on productive partnerships among the various tiers of government. The Governor made this assertion during a statewide broadcast at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, following the law’s passage by the State House of Assembly.
Soludo noted that the new law operationalizes local government autonomy as guaranteed by a recent Supreme Court ruling. He described the law as progressive and reaffirmed his commitment to federalism, stressing that collaboration between federal, state, and local governments is essential for effective governance in Nigeria.
Highlighting the constitutional provisions for basic education and primary healthcare under local government responsibilities, the Governor warned that without structured collaboration, many local governments could face severe financial challenges. He further explained that the law would enhance transparency and accountability in local governance.
Governor Soludo was joined by key figures during the broadcast, including Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and Dr. Pascal Agbodike, Member of the House of Representatives for Ihiala Constituency, alongside other state officials and local government mayors.
