Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has flagged off the construction of the 10.8-kilometre Nkwo Oraifite to Nkwo Nnewi Road, locally known as Agba Ụzọ Ịnọ, as part of activities marking his third year in office.
The road serves as a key link between Owerri Expressway, Nkwo Oraifite, and Nnewi. Also inaugurated was the 5.8-kilometre Oraifite Civic Centre to Onitsha Expressway road, which had been severely affected by erosion, with a 10-metre-wide and 22-metre-deep gully now under control.
Governor Soludo emphasized the strategic importance of these roads in addressing flooding and erosion challenges in the area. He urged the contractors to ensure quality work and timely delivery, noting that his administration has so far awarded 750 kilometres of roads, with 402 kilometres already completed at a pace of 12 kilometres per month.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, highlighted the devastating impact of the erosion before the intervention, which had displaced community members.
Speaking at the Oraifite Civic Centre, businessman Sir Emeka Offor commended Governor Soludo’s efforts, expressing his support and urging residents to align with the governor’s vision.
The Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Mr. Chimezie Obi, and the President General of Oraifite Improvement Union, Sir Vin Dike, noted that the governor’s six ongoing road projects in the area and broader development efforts made his re-election a necessity.
