Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has assured residents of more dividends of good governance as his administration continues its development agenda.
Soludo made the pledge on Tuesday night while receiving a delegation of Vanguard editors at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. The team presented the governor with a letter from Vanguard Media Limited, notifying him of his selection for the 2024 Good Governance Award.
The Vanguard delegation was led by the Chairman of the Editorial Board, Ochereome Nnanna, alongside the Editor of Saturday Vanguard, Onochie Anibeze, Business Editor, Emeka Anaeto, Deputy Editor of Sunday Vanguard, Charles Kumolu, and the Anambra State Correspondent, Vincent Ujumadu.
Nnanna said Soludo was chosen for the award based on his remarkable achievements in the past three years, particularly in infrastructure development, education, and security. He commended the governor for establishing the Agunechemba security outfit, which has played a critical role in tackling criminal activities in the state.
“Vanguard holds Governor Soludo in high regard as one of the most focused governors in the country,” Nnanna said.
In his response, Soludo expressed delight at the recognition, describing it as a motivation to deliver more democratic dividends to the people of Anambra.
“This award will spur us to do more for our people. We are committed to transforming Anambra into a livable and prosperous homeland,” he said.
The governor highlighted some of his administration’s key achievements, including extensive road construction across the three senatorial zones, the ongoing Amawbia-Agulu-Ekwulobia dual carriageway with the Ekwulobia flyover, the world-class Solution Fun City and amusement park, and the construction of a 10-storey international hotel in Awka.
Soludo also mentioned the ongoing ICT Centre, improvements in healthcare delivery that have earned the state national and regional laurels, and the transformation of the Okpoko slum with modern amenities.
On security, the governor expressed satisfaction with efforts to combat crime, noting that identifying the sources of criminal activities had helped the government address the problem holistically.
He further revealed that his administration had not borrowed any funds to execute the projects, emphasizing his commitment to avoiding additional debt for the state.
Soludo confirmed his attendance at the award ceremony scheduled for April 11, 2025, at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
