In a significant political shift, 1,300 former members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra have merged their structure with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The ceremony to welcome them was held today at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, Awka.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo described the day as a landmark moment in APGA’s history, expressing joy that the PDP in Anambra has recognized the APGA movement as the pathway to the promised land. He emphasized that APGA, being a mass movement, treats all members equally. He also highlighted the ongoing electronic re-registration of APGA members, urging the new entrants to take advantage of this opportunity.
Governor Soludo called on the new members to collaborate with his administration to build APGA as a vehicle for transformation, reiterating his commitment to using the party to drive development. He cited initiatives such as free education, free antenatal care and delivery services, and the distribution of palm and count seedlings as examples of APGA’s focus on sustainable human capital development. He pledged to continue these efforts, stating that APGA is the only platform capable of delivering genuine development to the people, particularly the poor and underprivileged.
State Chairman of APGA, Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, thanked Governor Soludo for creating an enabling atmosphere for this transition, aligning with the party leadership’s vision for Anambra State.
Speaking to ABS, one of the defectors, Rt. Hon. Emeka Anyaenetu, explained that Governor Soludo’s people-oriented policies motivated their decision to join the APGA movement, aiming to support the Governor in completing his agenda for the people of Anambra.
