Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, has paid the hospital bills of Mr. Bartholomew Ekene Asiegbu, a patient who recently underwent leg tumor surgery at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH).
Mr. Asiegbu, 38, from Abba in Njikoka Local Government Area, reached out to Mrs. Soludo, seeking assistance with his medical bill, which amounted to over N400,000. After verifying his condition and claims, Mrs. Soludo promptly settled the bill and provided him with additional funds for his return home.
The Commissioner for Health, who also coordinates Mrs. Soludo’s “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” initiative, represented her at the hospital during the presentation of the cash to Mr. Asiegbu.
During the visit, Mrs. Soludo emphasized that the mission of “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” is rooted in compassion and empathy. She noted that the initiative’s efforts would be meaningless without a human touch. She congratulated Mr. Asiegbu for overcoming what she described as a nightmare and for maintaining a positive attitude throughout his health challenges.
Mrs. Soludo also stressed the importance of healthy living, advising Mr. Asiegbu to pay attention to his diet and overall body care to maintain his health.
Mr. Asiegbu recounted that his illness began when he was five years old and resurfaced five years ago. He underwent a previous surgery three years ago, but the tumor regrew, necessitating the recent operation.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Asiegbu thanked Mrs. Soludo for her generosity and timely assistance. His sister, Chinwendu Asiegbu, who has been caring for him, prayed for God’s blessings on Mrs. Soludo, wishing her strength to continue her humanitarian efforts.
