Soludo’s Wife Commends ASU-UK and Ireland for Adopting Akwete Fabric as Official Uniform

Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has praised the Anambra State Union in the United Kingdom and Ireland (ASU-UK and Ireland) for adopting the traditional Akwete fabric as their official uniform. This move supports Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s campaign for homeland consciousness.

Mrs. Soludo announced the development on her verified social media accounts, highlighting that ASU-UK and Ireland is the first diaspora Igbo union to respond to the call, demonstrating a strong commitment to lead by example.

She emphasized that this significant gesture of faith and unity will greatly enhance the Akwete fabric’s resurgence, helping it penetrate global markets and solidify the perception of Ndi Igbo as a culturally rich and unique ethnic group.

“This show of faith and brotherhood will undoubtedly provide the renaissance campaign with the right momentum to influence millions of our people proudly embodying the true Igbo spirit worldwide,” Mrs. Soludo stated.

She described the Akwete revival as a crucial foundation for a new Igbo cultural narrative and a remarkable way to honor the ingenuity of the Akwete people, who have imbued the fabric with ancestral uniqueness and a rich history.

Mrs. Soludo also commended ASU-UK and Ireland for their solidarity and for embodying the “Igwe bu ike” (strength in unity) slogan, as they continue to build a progressive community that proudly represents the true Anambra spirit.

She urged other Igbo associations around the world to adopt traditional Igbo fabrics as their official attire, explaining that such actions are vital for reawakening cultural consciousness, fostering a sense of origin, and teaching the next generation to value their unique heritage.
