Soludo’s Wife Educates Traders on Health Risks of Storing Food with Chemicals at Nkwo Nnewi Market

Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, has urged traders to cease storing food products with harmful chemicals due to their detrimental effects on human health. She addressed traders at Nkwo Nnewi Market as part of her ongoing Healthy Living Market Outreach.

Mrs. Soludo highlighted the health risks associated with using chemical substances to store food, emphasizing that while some may be unaware of these dangers, the resulting diseases could be life-threatening. She noted that many chronic illnesses are linked to unhealthy consumption practices, including the ingestion of foods grown or stored with toxic chemicals.

Additionally, Mrs. Soludo educated the market traders on the importance of personal and environmental hygiene. She urged them to adopt common hygiene practices such as regular hand-washing and keeping their surroundings clean. She also encouraged the traders to support one another, foster community spirit, and work together to address social issues like drug use and cultism among children and youths.

Honorable Augustine Ike, the Member representing Nnewi North in the Anambra State House of Assembly, praised Mrs. Soludo’s healthy living campaign, noting its significant impact across the state in promoting better health habits.

Chief Humphery Anuna, President General of the Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife for their achievements over the past two years, expressing confidence in their leadership and noting the unprecedented positive changes in Anambra State.

Lady Nancy Ifebi, Chairman of Agbaedo Market, F-Line, and the market’s secretary, stated that they would adopt and promote the healthy living message among traders and visitors. They praised Mrs. Soludo for her dedication to improving public health and her commitment to the welfare of the community.

During her visit, Mrs. Soludo donated hand-washing buckets, refuse bags, aprons, and disinfectants to the market to support hygiene practices.

The event was also attended by Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health; Mr. Christian Udechukwu, Commissioner for Industry; Mrs. Ify Obinabo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare; Engineer Chris Obiorah, immediate-past Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North; and Mrs. Amaka Obi, convener of Women in Governance for Greater Anambra (WIGA), among others.
