The wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called for active participation from all stakeholders as the state commences its 2024 routine immunization programme.

The routine immunization programme targets children between the ages of zero and fifteen months, providing vaccines for a range of preventable diseases. According to the Anambra State Ministry of Health, the vaccination programme is being conducted at all primary health centres as well as secondary and tertiary health facilities across the state.

Major diseases covered by the vaccination include poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, hepatitis, diphtheria, diarrhoea, pneumonia, whooping cough, tetanus, and meningitis.

Mrs. Soludo noted that the government has set new targets for coverage and results, aiming for improved outcomes with this year’s exercise. She emphasized that achieving these goals will require collective effort from all stakeholders to complement the government’s initiatives.

The governor’s wife urged parents and guardians of eligible children to ensure they receive the necessary vaccinations. She also called on health workers administering the vaccines to prioritize reaching people in rural and riverine communities.

Mrs. Soludo highlighted the significant progress Anambra State has made in reducing child-killer diseases, which has earned it the second spot for the lowest number of under-five mortality in Nigeria. She reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to achieving even lower infant mortality rates, aiming for sustainable improvements in child health.

The routine immunization programme is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to protect children from deadly diseases and improve overall public health outcomes.
