Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra’s governor and founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, led a health outreach at the popular Coke Market in Onitsha, emphasizing the importance of personal and environmental hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases.

Addressing the traders, Mrs. Soludo stressed that maintaining hygiene in market environments is crucial for saving lives and combating transmissible diseases. The Healthy Living Market Outreach, spearheaded by her NGO, aims to educate local traders on the significance of good hygiene practices and proper health maintenance.

Mrs. Soludo highlighted the necessity of healthy habits, such as regular hand washing, especially after using the toilet and handling money, keeping trade areas clean, and maintaining nearby drainage systems. She also encouraged proper waste disposal, using market toilet facilities, and keeping surroundings clean, urging traders to spread these practices within their community.

In addition to hygiene, Mrs. Soludo discussed the benefits of a nutritious diet, underscoring that healthy living is both affordable and essential for a sickness-free life.

Dr. Afam Obidike, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health and State Coordinator of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, praised the outreach. He explained that the initiative supports the broader health goals of the current administration and aims to foster a new health-conscious mindset among residents.

Mr. Patrick Udeze, the General Chairman of Coke Market, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Soludo for the outreach, noting that it would enhance the traders’ health awareness and positively impact their daily lives.

The event included professional teachings on managing hygiene-related issues and practical demonstrations by the Red Cross Society on handling household emergencies with basic life support techniques.
