Soludo’s Wife Sponsors Health Insurance for 1,000 Persons with Special Needs in Anambra

Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has sponsored the enrollment of 1,000 individuals with special needs into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme. This historic event, held at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, marks the largest gathering of such beneficiaries sponsored by a governor’s wife since the scheme’s inception in 2018.

Mrs. Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, expressed her pride in supporting beneficiaries from all 179 communities in the state, noting that the enrollment is provided free of charge. Addressing the beneficiaries, she emphasized that this intervention demonstrates her husband’s administration’s commitment to the well-being of people with special needs, particularly those in grassroots areas.

She assured that the administration is tirelessly working to ensure that every resident of Anambra State experiences good governance. Highlighting the state’s human capital policies, Mrs. Soludo noted that these are designed to explore potentials and provide a platform for all residents.

Mrs. Soludo also pointed out that the state government is acutely aware of the existence and needs of people with special needs and is actively working on initiatives for their benefit. She assured that each beneficiary would receive comprehensive health insurance, granting them access to free medical care at selected health facilities in Anambra.

Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, commended Mrs. Soludo for her humanitarian efforts and emphasized the state government’s readiness to form partnerships to expand access to affordable healthcare and improve family welfare packages.

Anambra State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, praised Mrs. Soludo for her generosity and urged her to include members of his association in her Healthy Living campaign. He highlighted the additional health challenges faced by persons with disabilities, such as access to healthcare, social stigma, and discrimination.

In her goodwill message, Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, remarked that Mrs. Soludo’s gesture reflects the state government’s commitment to its social agenda, which aims to impact the masses at the grassroots level directly.

Some beneficiaries, including Mr. Kinsley Godwin and Ms. Justina Ikenna, expressed their gratitude, pledging their support for the administration and praying for blessings upon Mrs. Soludo.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simon Onyemeachi, Chairman of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie, State Coordinator of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption program, Mrs. Josephine Onah, the wife of the National Chairman of APGA, Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa, and the Anambra State Woman Leader of APGA, among others.
