A South African man, known online as Grand Dilan, has made an emotional plea on social media, urging Nigerians to cease participating in a Bolt ride prank that has reportedly caused significant disruptions to businesses in South Africa.
In a viral video shared on Tuesday and seen by *Saturday PUNCH*, Dilan went on his knees, expressing that the situation had escalated beyond control. He explained that the prank, which began as a form of rivalry between the two countries, has led to considerable financial losses and the closure of several businesses.
The prank reportedly started when some South Africans ordered Bolt rides in Lagos, Nigeria, from South Africa, only to cancel the rides once the drivers arrived at the pick-up locations. In retaliation, some Nigerians began ordering Bolt rides in Johannesburg and Cape Town from their locations in Lagos, only to cancel the rides upon driver arrival.
Addressing Nigerians directly in the video, Dilan stated, “Nigerians, I’m on my knees. I’m begging you people to stop this. You guys have skyrocketed to another level. You have damaged a lot of businesses back in South Africa. So many businesses have closed apps. This is getting out of hand. You are destroying people’s businesses. You have destroyed millions.”
The ongoing prank has sparked widespread concern, as many businesses reportedly continue to suffer from the disruptions caused by these fraudulent ride requests.
