The Women Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee has organized a one-day seminar for female sports coaches and administrators in the Southeast, held in Awka, the Anambra State capital. Chaired by Chief Mrs. Ngozi Obikwelu, the seminar focused on the theme “Capacity Building in Sports.”
Professor Florence Adeyanju, Chairperson of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Women Commission, delivered a keynote address on “Overcoming Obstacles to Successful Sports Coaching and Administration.” She urged coaches to distinguish themselves by obtaining quality training, marketing their credentials, staying current with coaching techniques, and developing a strong coaching philosophy to achieve success.
Professor Adeyanju also discussed strategies for overcoming obstacles in sports administration. She emphasized the need for regulation, the establishment of well-structured sports development programs to identify and nurture talent, and the implementation of policies that promote gender equality and opportunities at all levels.
Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Women Commission, remarked that the program aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of female coaches and administrators, thereby improving performance in the sports sector.
Princess Albany Ugonwezeh-Agugo, host and Sports Ambassador to Nigeria on Rugby, noted that the four lectures provided during the event were designed to empower women in sports for more meaningful contributions.
Participants, including Mrs. Patricia Ezeji, Director of Sports in Imo State, and Mrs. Stella Okpokwu from Enugu State, expressed their satisfaction with the knowledge gained. They called for more such programs to encourage and support women in sports.
