Southeast Governors have been called upon to emulate Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Farm to Feed initiative as a strategy to achieve food security and address economic challenges in the region. Speaking in Awka, Dr. Mike Omenugha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emphasized that the program offers a sustainable solution to the economic hardships faced by the populace.
In a report by Paul Ezeoke, Dr. Omenugha highlighted the initiative’s potential to make Anambra State self-sufficient in food production, thereby reducing hunger, poverty, and economic hardship. He noted that the program would also generate steady income and employment opportunities, particularly for families, while keeping youths and other community members engaged in productive activities. This, he said, would help curb crime and social vices.
Dr. Omenugha further explained that the initiative could stimulate industrial growth, as agricultural products from the program would provide raw materials for industries, thereby attracting investors to various parts of the state. He pointed out that Anambra State and the broader Southeast region possess ample arable land to support large-scale agricultural activities needed to achieve these goals.
As a former Town Union President in Nnobi, Dr. Omenugha urged community leaders to encourage their people to participate in the program, ensuring that they reap its benefits while supporting Governor Soludo in his efforts to drive development.
Echoing these sentiments, Chief Nnamdi Onyema, a community leader, stressed the importance of self-reliance for the Igbo people in overcoming the current economic crisis. He commended Governor Soludo for his ongoing developmental efforts across Anambra State, urging other governors in the region to follow suit.
