The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and representative of Ogbaru II Constituency, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has organized a town hall meeting and launched an empowerment programme for his constituents.
The event, held at Atani—the headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area—featured the distribution of sewing machines, grinding machines, farm inputs, and the enrolment of 300 persons into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA).
With the theme “My Stewardship, Your Voice: A Report to the People,” the Speaker presented a detailed account of his legislative contributions, infrastructural efforts, and empowerment projects over his 22-month tenure.
Udeze noted that under his leadership, the 8th Assembly has passed 42 bills, 24 of which have been signed into law by the governor. He highlighted key legislation with direct benefits to Ogbaru, such as the Anambra State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission Law (ANSOGPADEC), the Electricity Law, and the Homeland Security Law.
He also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the construction of the Ihiala/Uli-Ogwuaniocha-Umunankwo road, the completed 11-kilometre Atani-Ozubulu road, and ongoing evaluations for the rehabilitation of roads in Iyiowa Layout and Amiyi-Umuzu.
The traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Azuka Ngoddy, and the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government, Mr. Kenneth Akwuobi, praised the Speaker’s commitment to development and called on residents to support efforts toward peace and progress.
Some beneficiaries, including Ms. Rosemary Ugochukwu and Mrs. Ebere Oduma, expressed gratitude for the empowerment packages and promised to make good use of the support.
The town hall meeting was attended by traditional rulers, clergy, and dignitaries, including a representative of the Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru, Right Reverend Prosper Amah; National Chairman of APGA, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa (represented by Honourable Ken Anazodo); and Managing Director of ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi.
