Speed Darlington Arrested Again by Nigerian Police in Owerri

Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Owerri, Imo State. This marks the second arrest of the singer in recent months.

According to reports, Speed Darlington was apprehended during a show shortly after his return to Nigeria. The reasons for his latest arrest have not been disclosed.

This development follows his previous detention on October 4, 2024, after releasing a controversial video allegedly mocking fellow artist Burna Boy over his association with American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI. Speed Darlington was released on bail on October 9 after spending five days in custody.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the recent arrest via a post on his official Facebook page, stating, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”

Attempts to get further information from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, have been unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered.

Further details about the arrest and charges against the singer are awaited.
