Stakeholders Applaud Distribution of Science Laboratory Equipment to Anambra Public Secondary Schools

The distribution of state-of-the-art Science Laboratory Equipment to public secondary schools across Anambra State has been hailed as a milestone event, set to revolutionize the practical teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, described the initiative as a crucial step towards enhancing STEM education in the state.

Speaking at the Capital City Secondary School in Awka, where representatives from the benefitting schools gathered to receive the equipment, Professor Chuma-Udeh, represented by Mrs. Chinyelu Nwachukwu, urged principals and teachers to utilize the new resources effectively to improve student learning.

Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), emphasized that STEM education prepares students for future challenges by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. She noted that the distributed equipment will significantly enhance hands-on learning experiences in Anambra’s schools.

Dr. Uchenna Ezeogu, a representative from the private firm that supplied the equipment, revealed that a needs assessment of the state’s 224 public secondary schools found that 94% had laboratory structures but lacked sufficient equipment, while the remaining 6% had structures without any laboratory facilities. The procurement and distribution of the laboratory equipment by the state government aims to address these deficiencies.

Professor Charles Nwadigwe, representing the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), advised school principals to collaborate with the Presidents General of their respective communities to ensure the security of the equipment.

In a vote of thanks, Miss Chidalu Onyebuchi, a student from Community Secondary School, Isuofia, expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his contributions to the education sector and prayed for his continued success.

The event also featured the unveiling of the STEM equipment by Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, equipment demonstrations, and an interactive session.
