Following the election of Senator John Azuta-Mbata as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on January 10, 2025, concerned stakeholders have set an agenda for the apex Igbo sociocultural organization.
The election, held in Enugu, also saw the emergence of Chief Emeka Sibeudu, a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, as Secretary General.
Speaking to ABS, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of Ohanaeze, expressed optimism in the new leadership’s ability to address the organization’s challenges. He urged the leadership to promote unity among Ndigbo and pursue non-violent solutions to the insecurity in the Southeast. He also called for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing his detention as unjust and troubling.
Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim, a community leader in Awka, emphasized the need for the leadership to focus on advancing Ndigbo’s interests in infrastructure development, political appointments, and harnessing human capital. He further urged Ohanaeze to take a proactive role in addressing the security issues plaguing the region.
Stakeholders remain hopeful that the new administration will usher in a more unified and prosperous era for Ndigbo.
