It has been a month since a circular on “Operation desilt your waterways 2.0” was released to Ndi Anambra, the deadline for the exercise is over and we are on the streets of Anambra for Enforcement and prosecution of defaulters said the Anambra state commissioner for Environment, Dr Felix Odimegwu.
This was disclosed yesterday 3rd April 2025 by The Anambra State Hon. Commissioner for Environment Engr. Dr Felix Odimegwu as he embarked on Enforcement/Prosecution of defaulters and thorough Environmental inspection/awareness/street check tour with his team which comprises; Ocha Bridgade officials and Environmental health officers at Onitsha, Obosi and Nnewi cities respectively.
The Enforcement and Environmental inspection/awareness tour which started from Awka road, G.R. A Onitsha through Court Road, Holy Trinity Road, Bridge head down to Obosi dumpsite, Nnewi collation points and dumpsite where waste management situation were assessed and evaluated to ensure proper Environmental cleaniness, Conservation and sustainability of the citizen.
Dr Odimegwu also laid emphasis on the importance and proper disposal of hazardous materials to waste pickers/aggregators on site and abatement notices were served on the defaulters and prosecution follows suit.
Dr Odimegwu made it known to the citizen that Ocha Brigade and Environmental Health officers in the twenty-one (21) local government areas in the state will follow up aggressively on the enforcement and prosecution of defaulters as he urged citizens to desilt their drainages, stop trading on drainages and avoid indiscrimate disposal of refuse.
The enforcement/Awareness tour demonstrated Anambra State Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and also echoed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision for a “green, clean, and sustainable environment”.
While on the inspection tour, the Commissioner identified loopholes and pledged to improve and implement effective strategies to maintain a clean and healthy environment for the citizens of Anambra State
