Igbariam – Students from tertiary institutions across Anambra State gathered at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) campus in Igbariam to launch the “Solution Students’ Movement of Nigeria” (SSMN) and call for the re-election of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The event, held at the Nursing Auditorium, was marked by chants of “4+4=8,” symbolizing their demand for the Governor to serve a second term.
Governor Soludo, represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, expressed his confidence in the youth as future leaders. He highlighted his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector and transforming state-owned tertiary institutions. “Governor Soludo believes deeply in the potential of students, which is why education remains a top priority for his administration,” Obiogbolu stated.
Professor Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice Chancellor of COOU, commended the students for organizing the event and passing a vote of confidence in the Governor. However, she urged them to remain vigilant and avoid being exploited as political tools during elections. “While it is good to support a leader, I urge you not to allow yourselves to be used as thugs or pawns in any election,” she cautioned.
Mr. Osy Onuko, Managing Director of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) and Chairman of the occasion, outlined the Governor’s achievements in the education sector. He noted that Anambra State now boasts the lowest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, a testament to Soludo’s dedication to education. “The Governor has done so much to improve education in the state. It is only right that students support him to continue this good work,” Onuko said.
Student leaders from various institutions, including Chukwubuikem Odumegwu of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Daniel Uchenna and Josephat Ezehiri of COOU, Chukwunwike Mmadubueze of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, and Favour Chini of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, unanimously called for Governor Soludo’s re-election. They praised his efforts in transforming the state and urged him to complete his ongoing projects.
The event culminated in a resounding voice vote by the students, demanding that Governor Soludo contest for a second term in office. The launch of the SSMN signals a strong show of youth support for the Governor as the political landscape in Anambra State continues to evolve.
