The maiden edition of the Joe Anatune Memorial Essay Competition has produced its first set of winners, with Johnbosco Eze of St. Michael’s Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nimo, emerging as the overall winner in the secondary school category. Eze took home a cash prize of ₦200,000.
The competition, organized by Mrs. Ify Anatune in honor of her late husband, advertising icon Joe Anatune, aims to promote literacy and critical thinking among young students.
Esther Edochie and Mmaduabuchi Uba secured the second and third positions in the secondary school category, earning cash prizes of ₦150,000 and ₦100,000, respectively.
In the primary school category, Mmesoma Nnabugwu clinched the first position, receiving ₦100,000, while Sharon Agbata and Chisimdi Onyema emerged as the second and third-place winners with cash prizes of ₦50,000 and ₦30,000, respectively.
During the award presentation, Mrs. Anatune, a member of the Anambra State Basic Education Board, urged students to cultivate a habit of reading and research to sharpen their intellect and contribute to societal development. She also called on well-meaning individuals to support similar academic initiatives in their communities to encourage a culture of excellence in education.
Expressing their gratitude, winners Johnbosco Eze and Mmesoma Nnabugwu thanked the organizers and encouraged their peers to embrace hard work and dedication to their studies.
The event also featured the presentation of consolation prizes to ten students from various schools.
