Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle believes Nigeria can still finish as the second-best team in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers despite their disappointing 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after the game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Chelle expressed frustration over the team’s failure to secure a win.
“I am so disappointed for my players and for the country because we couldn’t do it [win against Zimbabwe],” Chelle said. “I don’t know the result of the other game, but I know we can go as second best.”
Nigeria currently sits in fourth place in Group C with seven points, trailing Rwanda, Benin Republic, and leaders South Africa, who have 13 points.
The Super Eagles will need to improve their performance in the remaining qualifiers if they hope to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
