The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect, Nwokpoku Emmanuel, for his alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery. Emmanuel, an Ebonyi State native residing in Oduke-Obosi, was apprehended after he and his gang abducted a victim, collected a N15 million ransom, and made away with the victim’s red Mercedes Benz GLE 450.
According to the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, the vehicle was tracked and recovered at MCC Junction, Onitsha, following a detailed investigation. The victim, who was kidnapped in a neighboring state, was released after the ransom was paid. However, the kidnappers fled with the victim’s vehicle, which has since been recovered by the police.
The arrest has brought to light a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in the region. The police are currently on the trail of other gang members, including their leader, identified as “Ebuka.” Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the police are intensifying efforts to dismantle the syndicate and bring all those involved to justice.
“The arrest of Nwokpoku Emmanuel is a significant step in our fight against armed robbery and kidnapping,” Ikenga stated. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of residents and call on the public to assist with any useful information to aid our investigations.”
This development underscores the Anambra State Police Command’s dedication to combating kidnapping and armed robbery through intelligence gathering and community collaboration. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement as efforts to curb crime in the state continue.
