Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending discriminatory practices against widows, pledging to enforce laws that protect their rights and uphold their dignity.
Prof. Soludo made the remarks during the commissioning of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation’s (SEOF) Touch-A-Life Housing Project, Phase 3, at Radio House, Oraifitte in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. He thanked Sir Emeka Offor and his wife, Dr. Adaora Offor, for their exceptional philanthropic efforts, noting that their initiative is a true reflection of humanity and compassion.
The Touch-A-Life Housing Project, which began four years ago, aims to provide shelter for widows who have no place to call home. Dr. Adaora Offor, the Vice Chairman of SEOF, explained that ten widows have benefited from this phase of the project, each receiving a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment.
Dr. Offor also addressed the mistreatment of widows, urging government officials at all levels to enact and enforce laws that safeguard widows’ rights, ensuring they are treated with the respect, dignity, and safety they deserve. She expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations supporting the project.
Sir Emeka Offor, the founder of SEOF, also spoke at the event, assuring attendees that the Foundation would continue its support for the Touch-A-Life Housing Project as it moves into its fourth phase.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Amaka Nwodika, Mrs. Juliana Akanna, and Mrs. Ogochukwu Ibekwe, expressed their immense gratitude and showered prayers on their benefactors for the life-changing gesture.
The event was attended by prominent figures such as Mrs. Karimatu Mohammed Ali Pate, wife of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Rt. Hon. Somtoo Udeze, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, and Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, among others.
