Nigerian singer Timaya has opened up about his decision to remain unmarried despite his successful career, citing personal preferences and a desire for freedom as key reasons.
In a recent interview with Naija FM, the artist revealed that marriage has never been a priority for him. “I’ve never been a married guy right from time, but it can change because marriage ‘dey craze.’ I just look at it like if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was the one who got out because I don’t like stress,” he said.
Timaya explained that his hesitancy towards marriage stems from his dislike for stress and his preference for a straightforward life. He emphasized the importance of open communication in relationships, stating, “If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it because I don’t like going to bed thinking about things. I go die o. I don’t like anything to bother me at all.”
On fatherhood, Timaya shared that his children live with their respective mothers, but they maintain a close and respectful relationship. Despite not being romantically involved with his children’s mothers, he emphasized the importance of a familial bond and mutual respect.
The singer revealed that he enjoys spending quality time with his children, who often visit him for extended periods. While he acknowledged that fatherhood can be stressful, he described it as a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
Timaya concluded by leaving the door open to the possibility of marriage in the future, hinting that his perspective might evolve over time.
