Tinubu Prioritizes Economic Reforms Over 2027 Re-Election, Urges Patience from Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that his current focus is on restructuring Nigeria’s economy for the benefit of its citizens, rather than on the 2027 general elections. Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to long-term progress.

The President urged Nigerians to remain patient, assuring them that the hardships currently being experienced are temporary, as his administration continues to take bold steps aimed at repositioning the country for future prosperity. He noted that his leadership is determined to create wealth and opportunities for generations to come.

“I am not thinking about 2027. My focus is on making Nigeria great for the future,” Tinubu said, adding that he understands the challenges facing the nation but is confident that the country will improve under his leadership.

The event, hosted by Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was attended by prominent political leaders from the region. In his speech, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of unity within the party and the need to work together to ensure the continued success of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Sanwo-Olu also called on South-West leaders to rally behind the administration, stating, “We are blessed with assets and well-positioned to move the country forward. We should strive to forge ahead as a united front.”

Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and keynote speaker, echoed this sentiment, urging the APC in the South West to maintain its unity and commitment to the party’s objectives. Fayemi also highlighted APC’s success as a party that emerged from the merger of four different political factions, calling for continued cohesion.

Other dignitaries in attendance included the governors of Ekiti, Ondo, and Ogun states, former Ogun State Governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun, and Chief Bisi Akande, ex-interim National Chairman of the APC.

With Tinubu’s emphasis on economic recovery and long-term growth, the message from the South West APC Assembly was clear: unity and support for the administration are essential to achieving the goals set out for Nigeria’s future.
