Tinubu Urges Edo Governor-Elect to Prioritize Development, Pledges Federal Support

President Bola Tinubu has called on the newly elected Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, to focus on the state’s development while assuring him of the full backing of the Federal Government and the Progressive Governors’ Forum. Tinubu made this statement during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership on Thursday, where Governor-elect Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, presented their certificates of return.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed the details in a statement titled *”President Tinubu Receives Edo Governor-Elect, Tasks Him on Development.”* Tinubu emphasized the importance of delivering good governance to the people of Edo State, stating, “You can now face the task of development. We are here to work with you.”

The President encouraged Okpebholo to collaborate closely with APC’s progressive governors, acknowledging the challenges of democracy, particularly in emerging economies like Nigeria. “Democracy is difficult, but it remains the best form of government,” Tinubu added, urging the governor-elect to rise to the challenge of leadership.

He also praised the unity displayed by Okpebholo and his deputy, describing their partnership as a “good symbol of political understanding.”

Tinubu further commended the role of former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and the APC leadership in securing the gubernatorial election victory. He acknowledged the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful election.

Reflecting on Election Day, Tinubu remarked on the commitment of Edo voters who cast their ballots in the rain without umbrellas, calling it a striking display of political dedication. APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, also echoed these sentiments, highlighting the party’s strong support in Edo and setting sights on upcoming elections in Ondo and Anambra states.

Ganduje emphasized the party’s focus on expanding its presence in the Southeast, aiming to secure more states in the region as part of the APC’s strategy to grow its influence.
