President Bola Tinubu has encouraged Nigerian motorists to opt for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200 per Standard Cubic Meter as an affordable alternative to petrol, which he said may reach N1000 per litre. This was discussed during a meeting with executives of NIPCO, a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector, at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Tinubu praised NIPCO’s role in the nation’s energy transition efforts, especially their support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). He highlighted the benefits of CNG as a cleaner, cheaper fuel option that would help reduce the nation’s reliance on petrol while saving motorists on fuel costs.
The President stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing the country’s shift towards cleaner energy solutions, while also reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for private investments. He noted that the government is offering incentives, including free conversion kits for commercial motorists to switch from petrol to CNG.
NIPCO’s director, Ramesh Kasangra, thanked the President for his support and pledged the company’s continued investment in expanding CNG infrastructure across Nigeria.
