Tinubu Welcomes Former Senate President Pius Anyim to APC

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday welcomed former Senate President Pius Anyim, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Anyim, a PDP presidential aspirant in the 2023 elections, was introduced to President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja by the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.

Explaining his decision, Anyim said he joined the APC to support the government during “turbulent times,” emphasizing that all patriots have a duty to ensure the country remains peaceful. He noted that his move was not unusual, as many PDP leaders had switched parties over the years. Anyim underscored his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress and creating a conducive environment for development.

Governor Uzodimma praised Anyim’s defection as a significant gain for the APC, citing recent local government election successes in Ebonyi State as evidence of the party’s growing influence. He described Anyim as a “big fish” and highlighted the positive impact of his defection on the party’s strength and unity.

Governor Nwifuru echoed these sentiments, stressing that Anyim’s decision was motivated by genuine reasons and not personal gain. He expressed excitement over the addition of such a prominent figure to the APC, asserting that it was a testament to the party’s good governance and appeal.

The delegation also used the occasion to thank President Tinubu for his support of the South-East region, including the recent signing of the South-East Development Commission Bill into law. Governor Uzodimma hailed this legislative milestone as a significant triumph for the region, appreciating Tinubu’s responsiveness to the concerns of South-East leaders.

This defection marks a notable shift in the political landscape, as Anyim’s experience and influence are expected to further strengthen the APC’s position in the region and nationwide.
