Tiwa Savage Addresses Fan Rivalry with Rising Female Artists

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has voiced her concerns about being pitted against emerging female artists by overenthusiastic fans, who claim that these new artists are vying for her “throne.”

In a recent interview with BET, Savage, known for her hit album “Water & Garri,” emphasized that she does not view music as a competition. Instead, she actively seeks to build friendships with new female artists in the industry.

“Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’ And I would go out of my way to make friends with them because it is not a competition,” Savage said.

She further noted that the real competition lies with male artists, expressing her satisfaction when Tyla, a female artist, won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over male nominees.
