In anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, remains composed, asserting that she feels no pressure to secure gold at the prestigious event.
Amusan, who recently clocked a world-leading time of 12.40s (0.9) at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational, expressed her relaxed mindset in the lead-up to the Olympics. Despite her impressive form and achievements, including setting the African 60m hurdles indoor record twice earlier in the year, the 27-year-old athlete emphasized the importance of taking each race as it comes.
Reflecting on her preparations and timing this season, Amusan prioritized execution and victory over chasing specific time goals. She attributed her slow starts in races, evident in her recent victory at the Jamaica Invitational, to ongoing efforts with her coaches to improve her performance.
As she gears up for her third Olympic appearance, Amusan remains focused on fine-tuning her skills and strategies, aiming to deliver her best performance when it matters most. Despite facing setbacks in previous Olympic outings, including missing out on the podium in Tokyo 2020, Amusan has demonstrated resilience, clinching world titles and Diamond League victories in subsequent competitions.
With a remarkable track record that includes multiple Diamond League titles, Commonwealth Games gold medals, African championships, and African Games victories, Amusan remains determined to showcase her prowess on the global stage and etch her name in Olympic history.
