Tony Elumelu to Highlight Africa’s Economic Growth and Youth Employment at UN General Assembly

African philanthropist Tony Elumelu is set to prioritize transformative economic growth, youth employment, and energy transition at this year’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, taking place in late September. Elumelu will advocate for urgent action during key engagements, including a roundtable discussion at the Clinton Global Initiative alongside former US President Bill Clinton and an event co-hosted with the World Food Programme (WFP), led by Executive Director Cindy McCain.

With over 60% of Africans lacking access to electricity and youth comprising more than 60% of the continent’s 1.3 billion population, Elumelu aims to address critical challenges impacting global development. He stated, “Addressing sustainable economic growth, youth unemployment, gender inequality, and energy transition is essential for meeting basic developmental needs and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Additionally, the United Bank for Africa (UBA) will host a networking gala on the sidelines of UNGA to showcase investment opportunities in Africa, commemorating UBA Group’s 75th anniversary and 40 years of operations in the United States.

As Chairman of UBA and Heirs Holdings, Elumelu is a leading advocate for Africa’s transformation, challenging conventional views and offering innovative strategies for collaboration and growth. The impact of the Tony Elumelu Foundation in promoting youth entrepreneurship has been recognized in case studies from prestigious institutions such as Harvard and Stanford.
