Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified operations against criminal elements, including oil thieves and terrorists, in various parts of the country, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated during the weekly briefing on military activities that the forces are making significant strides in combating terrorism, insurgency, and violent extremism. According to him, the armed forces continue to adapt and improve their strategies to effectively neutralize threats across the nation.
Among the week’s key achievements was the crippling of crude oil theft activities in Rivers State, with airstrikes targeting illegal operations in Bugama, Idama, Cawthorne Channel, and Krakrama. These operations resulted in the recovery of 725,920 litres of stolen crude oil and 475,250 litres of illegally refined diesel (AGO), denying the oil thieves an estimated N795.7 million.
Additionally, two terrorist strongholds were destroyed in surgical operations. Sadiku Enclave in Tsora Hill, Katsina State, and Alhaji Yusuf Enclave in Yadi Forest, Kaduna State, were decimated by troops. During these operations, 152 terrorists were neutralized, 109 were apprehended, and 91 hostages were rescued.
Major General Buba also revealed that troops arrested two female terrorist collaborators who were responsible for negotiating ransoms with the relatives of kidnapping victims.
In terms of arms recovery, troops seized 183 weapons and over 4,443 rounds of ammunition, including 95 AK-47 rifles, 35 locally fabricated guns, and a variety of specialized military-grade ammunition.
Buba commended the commitment of the armed forces and urged continued support from the public, stressing that the military remains focused on ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
