Troost-Ekong Praises Super Eagles’ Performance in Draw Against Rwanda

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance following their 0-0 draw against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Despite the goalless outcome, the Nigerian team dominated the match, creating numerous chances but struggling to convert them into goals. Troost-Ekong acknowledged the difficulties of playing away, particularly on a challenging pitch, but remained positive about the team’s effort.

“I’m proud of the team. It’s always difficult to play away from home, and the pitch wasn’t good enough,” Troost-Ekong said. “We created a lot of chances and could have scored two, three, or four goals. Overall, it was a positive performance.”

The Super Eagles have accumulated four points from their first two qualifying matches, and Troost-Ekong emphasized that the team remains on track for AFCON qualification.

The Nigerian defender also reflected on playing in front of Rwanda’s vocal home fans, stating that their presence energized the match. “We’ve played in front of bigger crowds before. The energy from the fans made the game lively, and the booing showed we were doing well.”

Looking ahead, Troost-Ekong stated the team’s focus will now shift to their upcoming matches against Libya. He stressed the importance of securing qualification in those games, adding, “We want to seal the deal and will approach the Libya games with seriousness.”

The Super Eagles will reconvene in October, where Troost-Ekong hopes all players will be fit and ready to give the coach selection options.
