Troost-Ekong Warns Super Eagles of Hostile Crowd Ahead of AFCON Qualifier in Libya

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has cautioned his teammates about the challenging atmosphere they are likely to face when they take on Libya in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Benghazi on Tuesday.

Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg, played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, thanks to a second-half goal by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. With this win, the Super Eagles are focused on cementing their AFCON qualification in the return fixture.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Troost-Ekong acknowledged the tough task ahead in Benghazi, warning that Libya will be determined to fight back, supported by a hostile home crowd.

“Libya will come out fighting, but we want to go there and seal our AFCON qualification,” Troost-Ekong said. “The crowd will be hostile, they will make it hard for us, but we will be ready.”

Nigeria currently leads Group D with seven points from three matches, while Libya sits at the bottom with just one point from the same number of games. The Super Eagles will look to maintain their momentum and secure their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
