Two Senior Officers Suspended Over Alleged Bobrisky Preferential Treatment Scandal

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended two senior officers at the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre, Lagos, following allegations of preferential treatment involving social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

The suspension came after a voice note by Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan, surfaced, in which Bobrisky claimed his six-month sentence for naira abuse in April was served in a private apartment, arranged through his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

In a memo issued on Thursday, signed by the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspended officers were identified as Deputy Controller of Corrections, Michael Anugwa, and Deputy Controller of Corrections, Sikiru Adekunle, both in charge of the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The memo also announced the suspension of Ogbule Obinna, an officer at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting an inmate outside the facility, and Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, a senior officer at Kuje MSCC, Abuja, for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.

Ahmed stated that the officers’ suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation into the allegations. He assured the public that the findings would be made available once the investigation is concluded.
