The United States has condemned the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, asserting he had a “lot of blood on his hands.” This statement was made by the White House in a condolence message following Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, addressing reporters on Monday, attributed severe human rights abuses and support for regional proxies, including Hamas, to Raisi. “This was a man who had a lot of blood on his hands,” Kirby stated.
Despite the strong condemnation, Kirby extended general condolences, saying, “As in any other case, we certainly regret in general the loss of life and offer official condolences as appropriate.”
Following Raisi’s death, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced a five-day period of mourning. “I announce five days of public mourning and offer my condolences to the dear people of Iran,” Khamenei stated.
Raisi, along with other officials, perished in the helicopter crash, marking a significant moment in Iranian politics and international relations.
