UI Governing Council Chairman Adebisi Akande Donates Allowances to Science Students

The Chairman of the University of Ibadan (UI) Governing Council, Adebisi Akande, has made a generous decision to forgo his allowances and allocate them as scholarships to students studying science courses at the university. In a letter to UI Registrar Ganiyu Oke, Akande requested that any remuneration due to him be converted into scholarships for students in the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology departments.

Akande, who is also a former Governor of Osun State, emphasized that his role as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council is a national call to service, and he does not intend to earn any payment from it. He further instructed that if his allowances are ever terminated, the university should utilize funds from his Adebisi Akande Foundation to ensure the continuity of the scholarships.

This philanthropic move by Akande aims to support deserving undergraduate students by covering their accommodation and other officially approved fees. Akande was appointed as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan by President Bola Tinubu on June 15, 2024.
