UK-Based Wuraolami Foundation Suspends Nigerian Scholarships Amid Fraud Allegations

The Wuraolami Foundation, a United Kingdom-based organization, has announced the suspension of scholarships awarded to Nigerian beneficiaries until further notice, citing concerns over widespread fraud within the program.

In a statement released by Ms Ifeoyinla Jacobs, the foundation’s Convener, it was revealed that the decision to suspend the scholarships was prompted by reports of fraudulent activities involving some Nigerian beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme.

According to Jacobs, despite assurances from local authorities and the Nigerian arm of the foundation that substantial payments had been made, beneficiaries in Nigeria claimed they had not received their scholarship funds.

“As we move forward, the organization is exploring legal avenues to address this situation, including filing a formal petition with the Nigeria Police Force,” Jacobs stated. “It is crucial to handle this matter through proper legal channels to prevent any further damage to the organization’s reputation.”

Jacobs emphasized the foundation’s commitment to justice and transparency, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation to address the alleged fraud and ensure equitable access to justice under Nigerian law.

“Our organization is fully aware of its legal obligations under Nigerian laws, and we trust that these obligations will be fulfilled impartially, adhering to the Rule of Law,” Jacobs added.

The statement clarified that the foundation, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, has been providing support to vulnerable members of society since its inception in 2014. This support includes assistance to the poor, needy, elderly, disabled, orphans, and students through various charitable initiatives.

“It is important to note that all recipients who met the Charity’s requirements received their scholarship funds, which were duly sent to their respective educational or vocational institutions,” Jacobs affirmed. “All payments for scholarship funds were made directly to the legitimate institutions of the Charity’s scholarship recipients.”

The foundation urged the public to await the outcome of the ongoing investigation and reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity and accountability in its charitable endeavors.
