The President General of Uke in Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Peter Onyejegbu, has urgently appealed to the Federal and State Governments to repair critical roads within the community. He stressed that improved road infrastructure is essential for transporting agricultural products, which would drive economic growth for Uke and its surrounding areas.
In a recent discussion with journalists, Chief Onyejegbu underscored the importance of infrastructure development to better deliver democratic dividends to Uke and its environs. “Uke is in the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, bordered by neighboring communities like Ideani, Abatete, Ogidi, Umuoji, Ojoto, and Nnobi,” he said, emphasizing the shared need for accessible and functional roads.
Chief Onyejegbu praised the resilience and industrious spirit of Uke residents, noting that the community thrives on trade, agriculture, and local enterprise. He also highlighted the Uzo Iyi Festival, a major cultural event celebrated every April, as a focal point for community unity and planning.
Reflecting on the pressing infrastructure needs, Onyejegbu specifically urged government intervention on the Mpia-Ugwuagbugbana-Eke Uke-Igwe Ileka Road. “This would significantly alleviate traffic congestion, particularly at Eke-Agu Abatete junction, which worsens during festive periods,” he said. He acknowledged efforts by community members to maintain the roads but emphasized that substantial government support is necessary to prevent the area from becoming isolated.
Chief Onyejegbu also called on Uke residents to support the town union’s developmental projects, encouraging collaboration with government initiatives to ensure sustainable progress in the community.
