Umunze, a prominent community in Orumba South Local Government Area, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his significant contributions to road infrastructure and the security of lives and property across the state.
During the 2024 General Assembly of the Umunze Progressive Union, the community’s President General, Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, highlighted these achievements while also announcing the community’s plans to enhance local security efforts. A key initiative includes establishing a database to collect detailed information on residents, aimed at strengthening security measures and preventing potential threats.
Engr. Iheazor explained that this first general assembly under his seven-month-old administration was organized to unite community members and foster discussions on the progress and unity of Umunze. He reaffirmed his commitment to the community’s development, emphasizing the need for continued support from all members.
Following a recommendation from the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs on January 3, 2024, Engr. Iheazor called for a review of Umunze’s 1982 constitution to align it with modern aspirations. The motion for the review was unanimously approved during the assembly, alongside the formation of eleven additional committees to address various community needs.
Among Engr. Iheazor’s accomplishments during his tenure are the supervision of the Umunze Youth Association election, which resulted in the election of Comrade Ibeabuchi Okeke as president, and collaborative efforts with community stakeholders to rehabilitate the Science Laboratory of Community High School Umunze. He also assisted in securing two science teachers for GTC Umunze and urged the community to continue supporting his administration.
The community’s traditional ruler, Igwe Promise Eze, represented by Chief Lawrence Ukaejiofor, Chairman of the Igwe-In-Council, also called for sustained support for Governor Soludo, Engr. Iheazor, and the Umunze Igwe-In-Council to ensure a prosperous and thriving community.
Additionally, Mr. Shedrack Azubike, Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South LGA, represented by Pastor Chinedu Onyeacho, Secretary of the local government, pledged to replicate Governor Soludo’s developmental initiatives within the community.
Other notable participants at the meeting included Venerable Nnamdi Onyeakpa, an Anglican priest, former President General of Umunze Progressive Union, Mr. John Akanyeonu, Chairman of all Village Chairmen in Umunze, Mr. Hyginus Umeaka, Secretary of the Umunze Peace Summit, Professor Clementina Agbionu, and Mr. Uchenna Nwoke from the Umunze Youth Association. They collectively agreed that the assembly marked a renewed commitment to the community’s sustainable development, setting aside past differences.
The event, which was streamed online, was attended by various dignitaries, including Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, who was represented by her aide, Mr. Austin Ozo. It commenced with a special prayer led by Chief Alex Okoli, the eldest member of the Igwe-In-Council, officially marking the opening of the community hall.
