UNESCO Laureate Prof. Bashiru Aremu has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chief Patron of the Unity of Nations Action for Climate Change Council (UNACCC). This significant appointment was announced in a statement released on Saturday by his Executive Assistant on Media, Publicity, and Communication Matters, Bieni Emenike.
UNACCC, an official partner of the United Nations, is a global CEO-led organization comprising over 200 leading businesses and partners working collaboratively to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world. Prof. Aremu’s appointment is a recognition of his dedication to education, awareness, and sustainable development.
In his appointment letter, Global Founder and President of UNACCC, Prof. Rajat Sharma, praised Prof. Aremu for his commitment to sustainable development and education across the African continent. He highlighted that Aremu’s new role as the Chairman of the Board for Africa and Head of the UNACCC Africa Headquarters marks a significant milestone in the organization’s efforts to promote sustainable development goals (SDGs) throughout the region.
As part of his new responsibilities, Prof. Aremu will oversee the establishment of the UNACCC Headquarters for Africa, which will work closely with 57 nations on the continent. The organization also plans to appoint country chairmen and national council members who will contribute to UNACCC’s mission in Africa.
